Pririt Batis Batis priris
 Taxa: Order Passeriformes
Habitat: Acacia & Prosopis trees
Nest: Small neat cup
Song: Slow descending of whistling notes


The Pririt Batis is a regular visitor to BRinK camp, which makes us laugh everytime we hear his song!   
     
Lilac-breasted Roller  Coracias caudatus

Taxa: Order Coraciiformes
Habitat: Acacia & dry savannah
Nest: Tree holes, often prepared by woodpeckers
Song: not a song bird

Their eggs are incubated by both parents, which are extremely defensive. Lilac-breasted rollers are common in Kuzikus.
     
African red-eyed Bulbul Pycnonotus nigricans

Taxa: Order Passeriformes
Habitat: Garden
Nest: --
Song: Quite variable

It mainly feeds on fruit, such as those from the pepper tree by the lodge. The species is socially monogamous and males are highly territorial.
 

Crimson-breasted Shrike Lanarius atrococcineus

Taxa: Order Passeriformes
Habitat: Savannah and Garden

Nest: --
Song: not recorded

This shrike feeds on arthropods usually catching them in flight.

Shaft-tailed Whydah Vidua regia


Taxa: Order Passeriformes
Habitat: Open grassland
Nest: brood parasite of the Violet-eared waxbill
Song: not recorded




Its diet consists mainly of seeds and often comes to camp after raking the area around the tents.

Taxa: Order Passeriformes, Habitat: Open grassland, Acacia & Thornbush, Nest: Oval-shaped structure made from grass stems which stick out untidily

Habitat: Scrub, savannah, gardens
Nest: Small neat cup in bush

Ant-eating Chat Myrmecocichla formicivora

Taxa: Order Passeriformes
Habitat: Savannah, Acacia
Nest: Nests in Aardvark holes
Song: High-pitched single note, sitting on the top of branches

The ant-eater is very common in Kuzikus.
