Writing the proposal

You must submit the application form along with the proposal. The proposal is your suggested method to meet the aim of the project you have selected. Planing the project beforehand enables us to start straight away upon your arrival in Kuzikus and greatly increases the chance of obtaining good data.

The proposal must be a consice and logial method to collect the data required. It may be in note form (a word-perfect essay is not necessary and a few hundred words are sufficient) but it must be clear. Any equipment needed should be mentioned.

As a group you can submit the same proposal, however the application form must be sent seperately. In writing your proposal any references you use should be submitted. Ideally these include scientific journals and books. Only a couple are needed though - just to show us you have basic knowledge and initiative to do indepndent research. Journal articles are attached in pdf-format and referenced by title, author, date and pubisher.

Some points to think about when writing your proposal (Sutherland, 2006):
  • What is the specific question?
  • What results are necessary to answer the question? Think about how graphs should look like.
  • What data is needed and how do you collect the data?
  • Can the data be collected in the time available?

Although it may sound daunting, don't be afraid of writing your proposal!

We are here to help and any questions will be answered. The methodology need not be long or refined at this stage. What we are looking for in successful applicants is logical thought, enthusiasm for the project and willingness to participate in theory as well as in the practical aspects of Biological Research in Kuzikus.
